Salsa Figures - Figuratively Speaking...

Hi salsa ladies,
One of my worries since I started to learn salsa (and teach as well) has
been how to remember and how to write down salsa figures. I came up with a
simple idea, that is to model a Music score and write down salsa figures in
that way. The picture I sent you contain a base idea, applied to one of the
steps from Eric and Edie's cool moves II (I think it is called sombrero or
helicopter.. not sure.). So far the base line deals only with figures and
not with the description of the step itself, but could be extended to a
more exhaustive description. I would like your opinion, what you think
about it and if there is anything similar around as well. I will try to get
the opinion from a few people, maybe we can devise something useful for
everybody to use and come up with some standards.

here is a description (a sort of caption) to understand the figure:

"This chart explains a method to write down salsa figures. The idea is to
mimic a simplified music score. Each long bar shows the beginning of a bar
of music. The numbers 1 and 5 refer to the salsa steps in a salsa measure
counted from 1 to 8 (i.e., 2 bars of music in 4/4) . NY at the beginning
indicate what style of salsa we are dealing with, in this case is a New
York style figure. It replace the Key indicator in a music score. The part
of the lady is reported on top, with the action of the man at the bottom.
The horizontal line shows the location of the Cross Body Lead while the
other symbols are reported in the legend. Notice that when the time
location of an action needs to be specified (change of hands for example)
the exact position in the bar of music can be specified by an arrow
indication in what beat it has to happen.

For more complicated figures a more sophisticated 'music score like'
technique could be developed by opening a window that zooms into a specific
bar of music where exact steps and hand action for both man and woman can
be written down."
Thanks, Fabio
