On the first floor is the island’s splendidly elegant Art Deco style circular movie theatre, with gold and silver-plated designs and a fabulous hand-painted artistic mural adorning the inner walls of the theatre. The enormous circular mural depicts a story of the times and scenery of the island over its long history.
The dancers (all 6,200 of them) would then take a ramp (not stairs) up to the enormous circular ballroom on the third floor. There are no elevators nor stairs in the building, simply a huge series of ramps. Moving massive amounts of people up to the third floor of a building is no easy task, so the architects decided to steel the “ramp” idea from Wrigley’s Field, a training facility and baseball field. This was truly a mark of architectural genius considering placing an elevator in the Casino Ballroom would keep the thousands of people waiting in line, literally for hours (if it didn’t break down in the process!). Additionally, putting in stairs was simply “out of the question” because remember, our guests are “dancers”, not joe-average public. Dancers would have the risk of twisting an ankle or wearing out their calves climbing up stairs. Lord knows we wouldn’t want that - especially if we’re about to embark on a dance marathon of over five hours to Live Big Band music from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, or Tommy Dorsey - all of whom have given live performances there back in “the day”.

The Casino Ballroom is rented out for weddings, sweet sixteens, conventions, and balls, for around $2,500 per night.
