Salsa Boat and Ship Cruises
......
Under 21 Welcome!

What are they like?

Well, I've never been on a large Ship Salsa Cruise before, but would love your comments and stories on them! I'll be sure to post them right here! If you've been on one, Email me at edie@salsaweb.com or send a fax to (310) 364-1207 . Tell us what it was like, and suggestions on what to bring/wear/do, etc.. You can remain anonymous if you'd like!

I DO, however, know what it's like to be on a Harbor Salsa Cruise! It's wonderful! While the rhythm of the music is playing in the background, you get to feel the sun and cool ocean breeze tingle against your body and face. It's awesome. It's like going on a vacation to some distant Caribbean Island somewhere, on the other side of the world...

When you arrive at the boat, the DJ usually has Salsa already playing in the background. Some people are just standing peacefully, watching the ocean and the shore, others are taking pictures. There's usually a small crowd of guys gauking at beautiful women in their bikinis on the beach, and others are just chatting and laughing, making new friends. The most common remark is "Oh my! So THIS is what you look like in the daylight!" Usually it's positive, but there are a FEW exceptions....

As the music continues to play, more and more people begin to arrive. Everybody is getting anxious, and can't wait for the boat to take off and start moving - so what do they do to kill time? What do MOST SALSEROS do to kill time when they are gathered together, listening to Salsa music? That's right, they start DANCING - even BEFORE the boat takes off! We usually start to attract a small crowd of on-lookers on the shore next to the boat. They watch in amazement as we dance to the rhythms we love so much. It's funny how some people in this world never even knew such a thing existed! (I was one of them at one point in my life...) The small crowd of on-lookers gathered outside the boat turns into a larger and larger crowd/mob as the music gets louder and louder, and the dancers start increasing in number!

The boat finally releases its anchors and everybody cheers as we take off. They usually serve dinner first - it's a smorgasbord of wonderful foods ranging from Cuban, to Puerto Rican, to Mexican style cooking - tortillas and everything. As the boat moves along the Harbor, the scenery outside changes, from beautiful multi-million dollar ocean-front homes, to fancy restaurants you never knew existed, to beautifully architectured buildings, parks, and docks you wouldn't normally see from the shore. The Salseros dance, and dance, and dance, the rest of the evening away.

The most beautiful site to watch is catching the fiery yellow, orange, then red rays of the sun, setting and disappearing against the ocean horizon. Later, as the stars begin to appear, you see a full moon and her moonlight strips sparkle like diamonds, seeming to dance to the rhythm of the music on the tips and peaks of each dark ocean wave. Just staring at those diamonds in the water, and hearing the music we all love in the background, entrances you, and takes you away to another place in time..... You look around, see all your friends, hear the pulse of the congos and trombones in the background, and give a sigh and a smile.....

..... knowing that this is what life is all about - sharing the joy of Salsa in the open sea, and creating beautiful, lasting, memories...."

What to bring for a Harbor Cruise: a small duffel bag containing:

  6. Change of shoes - Tennis shoes and Dance Shoes
  7. Light jacket - may get a little cold or windy at night coming home
  8. Ladies, wear "light" makeup - during the day a lot is not necessary.

Cruise Comments:

"Edie,
I went on the Harbor Cruise last year, and it was definately one of the most memorable "Salsa" experiences I've ever had. I'm just sorry I forgot my camera!
- Los Angeles

"Edie,
The Harbor Cruise was GREAT! I was on the one where three people's birthdays were celebrated. They had a HUGE cake, and everybody "gang danced" the birthday people. I felt sorry for the girl! They gang danced her to TWO SONGS!
- Orange County
